How to read a poem

When reading a poem, one must be aware that you’re reading a piece of work that should mean something. Within the poem lies a message that the author is trying to convey. Now, before you start reading, clear your mind, empty it as much as possible. Focus on the task at hand. Isolate yourself from society and begin reading. Read the poem once, don’t miss a word. Read the poem silently, read the poem out loud. Take a break. ponder about things that stand out about the piece, once you’re finished, read the poem again. Read the title, read the entire poem word for word from top to bottom, now, repeat until you find meaning in the poem. If you don’t find meaning, then that’s perfectly fine too.
